Mental health refers to how you
think, feel, and act when faced with life's situations. It’s
how you look at yourself at the moment, at your life in general,
and how you relate to other people in your life. It’s an ongoing
reflection and evaluation of the challenges and problems you
face, and it leads you to explore choices, and make decisions.
Your mental health reflects your ability to handle everyday
stress, including social interactions, and cope with whatever
challenges come your way. So-called ‘normal’ mental health
is a subjective, personal feeling of well-being. You feel
that you’re able to cope with challenges, perform mental functions
satisfactorily, have manageable relationships with others,
behave responsibly, have some stability and control of your
life, and adapt to change or adversity when it arises.
Mental disturbances occur when your thought processes and
emotional state become seriously unbalanced, and lead you
to irrational or unstable thoughts or actions, usually with
a feeling of being out of control, often with some degree
of pain. The accompanying physical symptoms, combined with
an uneasy emotional state, tend to prompt a person to take
action to seek relief. This is a list of more common ailments,
